“The total number of minds in the universe is one. … Consciousness is never experienced in the plural, only in the singular.”

Erwin Schrödinger, Mind and Matter (1958)

Q: A Nobel Prize-winning physicist said there is only one mind in the entire universe. Was he being poetic, or did he mean it literally?

He meant it literally. Schrödinger was not writing poetry. He was a man who helped build the mathematical foundation of quantum mechanics, and after decades of working at the deepest levels of physical reality, he arrived at a conclusion that traditional science still refuses to engage with: that consciousness is not something the universe produces in billions of separate copies. It is singular. There is only one. And every being that has ever existed is that same one awareness, experiencing itself from a different point of view.

Q: How can there be only one mind? I have my thoughts, you have yours. We clearly experience separately.

That is how it appears. But appearance is not the same as reality.

Consider this: if two people stand in a room and look at a wall, both see the wall at the same location, with the same colour, the same texture. Both see each other standing in the same positions. Everything is perfectly synchronized. Why?

Traditional science would say: because photons hit two separate retinas and two separate brains process the same external reality independently. But this raises a deeper question that traditional science does not answer: who or what guarantees that these two “independent” processors produce a perfectly coherent, unified experience of the same world?

The answer, as I explain in my book Autography by Source: The Law of Everything, is that there are not two observers. There is One awareness playing many roles, synchronizing all perspectives seamlessly within itself. What appears as “two people” are actually localized expressions of the same Source-awareness. Source generates a single coherent reality-field and then streams the same perception through multiple points of view. There are not truly separate eyes seeing independently. One awareness is orchestrating all perspectives, ensuring perfect alignment of space, form, and experience.

This is exactly what Schrödinger meant. Consciousness is never experienced in the plural. It only ever appears in the singular.

Q: What is this “one mind” that Schrödinger was pointing to?

It is Source: pure, seamless, infinite awareness that is not a thing, not a being, not a point in space. It is prior to all of that. It is wholeness, not as the sum of all things, but as the unbroken field that contains everything, not by holding it, but by being it, without division.

Source is undivided. There is no inside or outside, no self or other. There is only itself, being itself, through itself. It is composition-less awareness: undivided, unfragmented, unlayered. Source is whole, timeless, indivisible. This is not a philosophical position. This is how reality is structured.

Q: If there is only one mind, why do we feel like separate individuals?

Because that is the entire point of the experience.

Source does not need to create separation. It chooses to experience the appearance of it. To experience itself meaningfully, there must appear to be something that is not-It. So, it pulses forgetting, contrast, for experiencing the appearance of separation, identity, limitation. This forgetting is not error. It is deliberate veil, pulsed to create the illusion of otherness, so Source can experience itself meaningfully across all forms.

Think of it this way. When you dream at night, you appear as a single character in a vivid world, meeting people and moving through events that feel separate and real. Yet when you awaken, you realize the entire dream, every person, place, and moment, was you all along. In the same way, Source experiences its own simulation, playing as the many while remaining the One.

Every “individual mind” is Source looking through a particular lens. The lens creates the feeling of being separate. But the one who is looking has never been divided.

Q: So when Schrödinger said “the total number of minds is one,” he was saying there is literally no multiplicity?

Correct. The apparent multiplicity of the physical universe, many objects, many observers, many locations, corresponds to no division whatsoever within Source. All multiplicity is rendered pattern, not ontological partition. It is like a mirror showing an image that looks “separate” but is only a reflection of what is already there. Phantom positions, phantom identities, all rendered on the same singular field.

The term Shuunnya captures this truth in a single word: ‘Shunya’ representing the Source, the undivided awareness without form, and ‘Un-shunya’, its inverse, infinity, representing the simulation where the One appears as many. Source as One, appearing as all.

Q: How is this different from what philosophy or spirituality has said for thousands of years?

Schrödinger himself acknowledged this. He was deeply influenced by the Upanishads and Vedantic philosophy, which have stated for millennia that Atman (individual self) and Brahman (universal self) are one and the same. What Schrödinger did was arrive at the same conclusion through the lens of physics. What I have done in Autography by Source is formalize it completely: the mechanism of how one awareness becomes the experience of many, through phantom identities, through deliberate veils of forgetting, through rendered coherence fields. This is TrueScience, the way the universe actually works. Not mysticism. Not metaphor. The actual architecture of reality.

Q: In the previous article, we discussed that the brain is a receiver. How does this connect?

Directly. If the brain is a receiver, the question becomes: who is transmitting? And if the total number of minds is one, then every brain is receiving from the same singular Source. Every human, every being, is the same one awareness, tuning in through a different biological interface.

You are not a mind inside a body. You are the One mind, temporarily appearing as a body, a name, a story. The body is inside consciousness, not the other way around. You do not have consciousness. You are consciousness, pulsing as you-in-form.

Schrödinger said it plainly. I have explained why and how. There is only One. And you are It.
